A neighbour told us about the Caroline Fountain in the grounds of Château de Chambord, dated 1825 and bearing the inscription: “like your kind deeds, my beneficial waters will never dry up” – or at least that’s what we think it means! A cryptic inscription indeed. I tried to find out more, to no avail. All suggestions welcome!

I think it must refer to Charles X. 1825 was the year of his coronation and his grandson and eventual heir was the Duke of Chambord. Alternatively, the Duke of Chambord’s mother was called Caroline so it may refer to her. Plus, his assassinated father, the Duke de Berry, was called Charles.
Looks like it might refer to Caroline, Duchess of Berry, daughter of Charles X and mother of the Duke of Chambord: Fontaine Caroline.
Btw, don’t put too much store in the story told at the end in the link. The name of the sculptor’s a bit fishy and I’m not sure the dates add up. I suspect it’s a joke.
