I was very surprised when I came across this house this evening on my way back by back from eating an ice cream next to Blois Castle (see below). It’s not the shape you usually see here!
J’étais très surprise lorsque je suis tombée sur cette maison ce soir en rentrant en vélo du centre ville après avoir mangé une glace devant le château de Blois (ci-dessous). Ce n’est pas ce qu’on a l’habitude de voir ici !

It looks like something you’d expect in Scandinavia or the Alps.
It’s really ghastly, isn’t it. William is quite right though I think. It’s one of those places that got built to express support for French people who found themselves German after the annexation of Alsace and Lorraine in the Prussian war. There was a fad for building Alsatian style buildings all over.

@Susan – I agree. I didn’t know about houses being built to exprss support for people caught in the annexation of Alsace and Lorraine. I shall look out for more!
