Today was the first day of lockdown easing for Christmas. All shops are open but the number of people allowed inside is one per 8 square metres. Culturel venues such as theatres, cinemas and museums are closed until 6th January. People can go anywhere in France they wish but there is a curfew between 8 pm and 6 am with the single exception of 24th December. Schools are breaking up tomorrow on an optional basis so children can self-quarantine at home before Christmas to avoid contaminating elderly relatives (normal break-up is Saturday for two weeks). Everyone is being advised to exercise as much caution as possible over the holiday period. I predict we’ll be back in lockdown in the New Year. The figures today are 11 500 new cases, 2 881 patients in intensive care and an alarming 790 new deaths due to a readjustment of weekend and nursing home figures which are only released on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Such a serene scene in contrast to the Covid dramas. France eases and Germany shuts down!
Your statistics are frightening.
Everywhere in Europe that is affected is tightening their lockdown except France, on the pretext that French morale will plummet if they can’t spend Christmas together. I find it immensely annoying.
I wish I knew more about where exactly this image was shot. I’d love to see what I could find on Google Street Views. I found Blois – (is this Blois) – and I was absolutely amazed at the streets and stone homes. Thanks for making me aware!
Sorry Ken, I’ve rectified that. I was so caught up in my “covid” text that I forgot to mention where it is. It’s in a small town called Onzain, about 15 kilometers down the river from us towards Tours and opposite the castle of Chaumont which often features on my blog.
Compared to Covid, this is tranquil.
