One of the entrances to the mediaeval town of Mennetou-sur-Cher is through the Good News gate next to the 18th century Benedictine priory. The following photos were taken from inside the gate and from the other side.

No doubt there are valid reasons, but I do dislike the greeny damp looking stains on the inner wall. Did there used to be a sort of Town Crier who got to name the Gate?
I quite agree about the greens damp stains no doubt caused by the incessant rain. It’s a pity because the tower was renovated in 2018. We have the same stains on our new low garden wall but we are going to get the high-powered spray out at the end of winter.
