Are they rescuing that giant caterpillar that got stuck half way up?
They are, indeed, rescuing the giant caterpillar, which in fact is a huge Virginia creeper root. There were two of them. The Virginia creeper was damaging the wall so had to be removed. The two men who called in especially after another set of people removed the creeper. Our garden was somewhat damaged in the process but the municipality sent us two gardeners with plants of my choosing and they planted them immediately.
