The Shrine of Remembrance inaugurated in 1934 is one of Melbourne’s main landmarks and affords a spectacular view of the city in every direction. The photographs below show the city taken from the terrace on the front façade then looking left. The flowers are part of the Greek National Day Commemoration.

A magnificent, poignant structure. The grounds are beautiful!
I still can’t believe I hadn’t heard of this beautiful memorial until our visit a few weeks ago. It was about 5pm when we stumbled on it and locked up. I didn’t know that there are internal stairs for these stunning views. Weather looks perfect for you too.

@Helen – Fortunately, we are staying just opposite so it was our first visit. The statue of the father and son in the crypt is very moving. And yes, the good weather is staying with us!
Yes i love going to Melbourne in January – not only to see the tennis but also to enjoy exploring these lovely places!
