Another rainy day with no sun but this little bed of crocuses that I came across when I walked down to the post box at the other end of the street made me feel warm and fuzzy inside.
Encore une journée pluvieuse sans soleil mais ce petit parterre de crocus croisé lorsque je me suis rendue à la boîte aux lettres à l’autre bout de notre rue m’a fait chaud au coeur.

Unbeknown to many people in Blois, there is a series of nine walking tracks in Blois, including Les Grouets where we live, that take you through backyards and hidden paths.
A l’insu de beaucoup de Blésois, il y a un réseau de sentiers aux Grouets où nous habitons qui passent par des fonds de jardins et chemins cachés. En tout il y a neuf sentiers pédestres de 2 à 10 km à Blois.
From time to time, we go to the Sunday market in Amboise, held on the embankment, next to the Loire. Although it is reputed to be the best in the area, but I prefer the merket on Place Louis XII in Blois.
De temps en temps nous allons au marché d’Amboise le dimanche. Sur le mail, il se trouve en bord de Loire. Bien qu’il soit réputé être le meilleur de la région je préfère le marché Louis XII à Blois.
As we came round a bend not far from Loches we discovered this magnficent château and the tall steeple of the church in Verneuil-sur-Indre. The castle, built in the 15th century was added to and modernised in the 18th century.
C’est en sortant d’un virage pas loin de Loches que vous avons découvert ce magnifique château et la belle flèche de l’église à Verneuil-sur-Indre. Le château, construit au XVe a été agrandi et modernisé au XVIIIe.
Winter, unfortunately, is not over so we needed to top up our wood pile. Wood in France is sold by the stère which is a cubic metre of wood usually cut to 50 cm lengths. The wood here is mostly oak with some hornbeam and ash. The measuring unit for firewood in France is the stère, which corresponds to one cubic metre of one-metre long logs.However, if the logs are cut to 50 centimetre lengths, the volume goes down to 0.80 m3 and for 33 centimetre logs,it’s only 0.70 m”. This is due to the fact that the logs are more compact because there are fewer empty spaces between them.
L’hiver, malheureusement, n’est pas fini et notre tas de bois est bien bas. Les deux stères de bois que nous avons achetés sont surtout du chêne avec quelques bûches de frêne et de charme. Le stère, unité de mesure du bois de chauffe, correspond à un mètre cube de bûches en longueur d’un mètre. Par contre, si les bûches sont coupées en longueurs de 50 centimètres, on n’a plus que 0,80 m3 et, en 33 centimètres, 0,70 m3, La raison pour cette “perte” est que les bûches se rangent mieux car il y a moins d’espaces vides entre elles,
This is the first time I’ve noticed this henhouse in our street in Les Grouets in Blois. In the background you can see the highway that runs along the Loire.
C’est la première fois que je remarque ce poulailler dans notre rue aux Grouets à Blois. Derrière, on voit la route nationale sur la digue qui longe la Loire.
There we were, walking along a country road (well not quite) and all we could see were telephone and power lines!
Et nous voilà, en train de nous promener à la campagne (eh bien, pas tout à fait) et tout ce que nous voyons ce sont des réseaux aériens de téléphone et d’électricité !
