This morning we went for a last walk around the marina in Senglea. The sky opened before we got back to the apartment. Time to leave.

Postcard from Malta: The Three Windmills – Les trois moulins
Today we visited the town of Zurrieq which has four 18th century windmills. The best preserved is Xarolla which has sails and still works, while the others, Marmara, Qaret (2 photos, taken from the back and front) and Salib only have the base and tower left. We didn’t get as far as Salib. Aujourd’hui nous avons …

The Big Lift in Valletta – Le grand ascenseur à la Valette
Every day we take the ferry from our apartment in Senglea to Valletta then go up in the lift you can see on the left. I have a fear of heights so it is a bit of a challenge but it’s getting easier each time! And below are some more door knockers – this time …

Postcard from Malta: Door Knockers – Heurtoirs
One of the first things I noticed in Malta was the door knockers, so I’ve been collecting photos of them. Here are my nine favourites for the moment.

This is typical for several reasons: on every corner, statues had to be built to represent saints; Valletta is built on a hill so many streets lead downwards; there are many enclosed balconies, many painted blue, red or green; and many of …

Light on the Loire – Lumière sur la Loire
This is a scene at Chaumont that I’ve often photographed but yesterday the light was most unusual.
Abigail's Chocolates – Les chocolats d'Abigail
These stunningly beautiful chocolates are the creation of Abigail from Le Calabash cooking school in south Touraine. I don’t know how anyone can bear to eat them!

The Little Cul-de-Sac – La petite impasse
I love the mixture of architecture in this little cul-de-sac whic is called an “impasse” in French although it is still possible to say “cul-de-sac” which literally means the bottom of the bag.
