And it’s a woman driver! The building behind is the old hospital – Hôtel Dieu which literally means God’s hotel.

We saw this little hedgehog and its mate in our garden for the first time today. My son Patrick who was visiting used Jean Michel’s telephoto lens to take this lovely photo. The little fellow was about 15 centimeters long. We later saw them in our little wood. We hope they’re here to stay because it seems they love slugs and snails which also love our baby lettuce!
Nous avons vu deux petits hérissons pour la première fois dans notre jardin ce matin. Mon fils Patrick qui nous rendait visite a utilisé le téléobjectif de Jean Michel pour prendre cette belle photo. Ces petites bêtes mesurent à peine quinzaine de centimètres. Nous les avons vu par la suite dans notre petit bois. Nous espérons qu’ils resteront chez nous car il paraît qu’ils adorent les limaces et escargots qui, eux, aiment nos petites salades.
Today’s photo comes from Clare Lepetit who lives near Cheverny. “These little blue tits were born in the roof of my Loire Valley angels workshop and on Sunday morning they fledged. Sadly, I’ve since found 2 that didn’t make that initial jump successfully. However, these two seem to be fighting fit. Following their photo-shoot they scaled the brick-built barbeque and finally braved the forest beyond our garden.
Notre photo du jour vient de Clare Lepetit qui habite près de Cheverny. “Ces deux petites mésanges sont nées sur le toit de mon atelier Loire Valley angels, et elles ont quitté le nid le dimanche matin. Malheureusement j’en ai trouvé deux depuis qui n’ont pas survécu au premier saut. Mais ces deux-là semblent être en bonne santé. Après la séance de photos, elles ont escaladé le barbecue en brique pour ensuite affronter la forêt au bout de notre jardin.”
We found this ittle colony of baby spiders on the back door handle of our car this morning! I was sorry I didn’t have a more appropriate camera.
Nous avons trouvé cette petite colonie d’araignées bébé sur la poignée de la porte arrière de la voiture ce matin ! J’ai regrette de ne pas avoir un appareil photo plus approprié.
At the moment, the garden is filled with wisteria, pansies and other lavendar flowers and the cuckoos seem to be saying singing all day! Perfect for lunch in the garden. There is a saying in France that when you hear cuckoo, you have to have money in your pocket. It will bring you riches throughout the year. But it’s not the only proverb concerning cuckoos!
En ce moment, le jardin est plein de glycine, pensées et autre fleurs mauves et les coucous n’arrêtent pas ! Parfait pour déjeuner au jardin. En France on dit qu’il faut avoir de l’argent dans la poche lorsqu’on entend le coucou: comme cela on sera riche toute l’année. Mais ce n’est pas le seul proverbe qui concerne les coucous !
