I found this clock in the most unexpected place – a secondhand shop in a little village in Sologne. How it got there I don’t know!
J’ai trouvé cette horloge dans un lieu très inattendu : dans une brocante dans un village en Sologne. Mais je ne sais pas comment elle a atterri là !

When I walked out the gate this morning, this cat, which I have never seen before, was walking along the middle of the road. When it saw me, it immediately sat down and eyed me off!
Lorsque j’ai franchi le portail ce matin, ce chat que je n’ai jamais vu, se promenait en plein milieu de la route. En me voyant, il s’est assis et m’a regardé fixement !
These mysterious letters and figures appeared in our street yesterday. The figures, which are sometimes yellow and sometimes blue, range from about 0.72 to 10.93. They seem to be connected with the manholes. We’re hoping they have something to do with our future optic fibre connection which will be a big improvement on our deficient internet connection.
Ces lettres et chiffres mystérieux sont apparus dans notre rue hier. Les chiffres, qui sont soient jaunes soient bleus, varient entre 0,72 et 10,93. Nous espérons qu’il y a un lien avec la fibre optique qui sera une nette amélioration par rapport à notre connexion internet actuelle.
On Friday we organised our first Neighbours’ Day. We ended up with 31 adults and 5 children. La fête des voisins also called Immeubles en fête (which roughly means festive flats) was created at the turn of the century (this one!), at the initiative of one Atanase Périfan in the 17th arrondissement in Paris. It was promoted by the mayors of Paris (all twenty-one of them) and low-income housing owners and its popularity rapidly spread to the rest of France. It is now held on the last Friday of May or the first Friday of June. It became Europe-wide in 2004.
Vendredi dernier nous avons organisé notre première fête des voisins. Nous étions en tout 31 adultes et 5 enfants. La fête des voisins, également appelée Immeubles en fête est créé au début du siècle (celui-ci !) à l’initiative d’un dénommé Atanase Périfan dans le 17ème arrondissement à Paris. Elle a rassemblée tous les maires de Paris et les propriétaires d’HLM avant de gagner le pays entier. Désormais on la fête le dernier vendredi de mai ou le premier vendredi de juin. Elle est devenue une fête européenne en 2004.

Up, Up and Away! – C'est parti !
After our disappointment last week as the hot air balloon that didn’t get off the ground, we were delighted to witness no less than three take-offs opposite château de Chaumont yesterday – a much better location! The video below shows the first one taking off.
Après notre déception la semaine dernière lorsque la montgolfière n’a pas décollé, nous étions ravis hier de voir pas moins de trois décollages en face du château de Chaumont – une bien meilleure situation ! La vidéo ci-dessous montre la première à décoller.
As we were coming home from our bike ride to Chambord, we saw a hot air balloon in a field. We waited a while in the hope of seeing its blown up but in the end the wind was too strong. Fortunately, one of the passengers waved at us to indicate that the flight was cancelled. Very disappointing all round!
En rentrant de notre circuit à vélo à Chambord, nous avons vu une montgolfière dans un champ. Nous avons attendu un moment dans l’espoir d’assister à son gonflage mais finalement le vent était trop fort. Heureusement un des passagers nous a fait signe que le vol n’aurait pas lieu. Quelle déception pour tout le monde !
Bread baking wasn’t the only attraction last Sunday at Les Grouets. We could also try our hand at a lathe. I got in early before the kids and their dads arrived – after that, you couldn’t even get close up!
Le four à pain n’était pas la seule attraction à la Fête du pain dimanche dernier aux Grouëts. Nous pouvions également nous initier au tournage du bois.Heureusement que j’ai pu essayer avant l’arrivée des enfants et leurs pères : après on ne pouvait plus s’y approcher !

April Fish Day – Poisson d'avril
Had I been smart enough, I would have used this photo for the camera-shy self-portrait theme yesterday. In France, April Fool’s Day is called “poisson d’avril” It consists of sticking a paper fish on someone’s back and seeing how long they go without realising it is there. Once the fish is discovered you shout “Poisson d’avril”. Since my married name is Avril, it would have been a good self-portrait
Si j’avais été astucieuse j’aurais utilisé cette photo hier pour le thème d’auto-portrait de quelqu’un qui n’aime pas qu’on prenne sa photo car mon nom is femme mariée est Avril. J’aurais pu dire “poisson d’avril” !
