Seen from the foot of Foix Tower in the grounds of Blois Castle, these lovely sunny terraces seem to be beckoning to us even though you may notice there aren’t any deck chairs at the beginning of March.

This stained glass window in Saint Saturnin in Blois is an invocation to the Virgin Mary when the Loire oerflowed its banks on 29th September 1866. It was thanks to the levee that Blois was spared. But the breach in Conneuil (near Montlouis-sur-Loire) flooded the entire valley between the northern slope of the Loire and the southern slope of the Cher. Click on the photo for more details.

When the north wind blows on the Loire, the mornings are often foggy. The mist remained all morning, followed by bright sunshine. Mittérand Bridge, inaugurated in 1994, is one of three bridges over the Loire in Blois.

Fifteen years ago, when I visited Château de Chamont for the first time with Jean Michel, he showed me “his” Loire. At the time, I found it somewhat austere. Today, it has become “my” Loire too.

The leaves have fallen, the days are short and sunny and the reflections of the sun setting over the Loire are a source of infinite pleasure.

There is an island opposite the Royal Castle of Amboise called Ile d’Or or the Golden Island. Today it shone under the combined effect of sun and frost.
