Covid Confinement Day 23


I take this photo every year and each time there are two or three more tulips. We are up to 18.
There were three more deaths in our area today bringing up up to 16 but the new nationwide death count was down to 541 from 607 yesterday.

Je prends cette photo tous les ans et chaque fois il y a une ou deux tulipes de plus. On est arrivé à 18.
Il y avait trois décès de plus aujourd’hui en Loir-et-Cher ce qui nous amène à 16 mais le nombre de nouveaux décès en France était 541, par rapport à 607 hier.

Lya, notre jeune fille de 8 ans qui habite en Sologne était au jardin aujourd’hui: “Maman et moi avons planté des dahlias dans une vieille bassine à laver le linge car ma mère aime recycler.”

Lya, our 8-year-old from Sologne, was in the garden today. “Mum and I planted some dahlias in an old wash tub because my mother likes to recycle.”

Château du Moulin

18151_chateau_moulin_4This delightful castle near Mur-en-Sologne was built at the turn of the 15th century for Philippe du Moulin. It combines the features of the feudal castle of the Middle Ages and the seigniorial abode of the Renaissance: moats, loopholes, machicolations and a keep with a footbridge (as opposed to a drawbridge) are enhanced with mullion windows and ornamental shells. You can walk right around the moat and get a 360° view. We visited the fascinating inside as well.
Ce vrai bijoux à côté de Mur-en-Sologne est construit à la fin du XVème siècle début du XVIème siècle pour le compte de Philippe du Moulin. Ainsi bâti entre deux périodes historiques différentes, le château du Moulin marie merveilleusement par son architecture le château fort du Moyen-âge et la demeure seigneuriale Renaissance : douves, arbalétrières, mâchicoulis, donjon avec pont dormant plutôt qu’un pont levis mais également fenêtres à meneaux et coquilles ornementales. On peut faire le tour complet pour avoir une vue à 360°. Nous avons également visité l’intérieur que j’ai trouvé fascinant.

La Locature de Straize

18146_locature_straize_1When we were cycling in Sologne on Sunday, I saw a sign saying “locature de Straize”. Neither i nor Jean Michel had even seen the word before so we stopped off to visit. This typical Sologne 16th century cottage was rented out to a farm hand called a “bricolin”, hence the name “locature” from “location” which means rental in French. It was a very interesting visit but I completely forgot to take photos of the interior! Fortunately there is a website you can check out by clicking here.
Lorsque nous avons fait du vélo en Sologne dimanche, j’ai vu un panneau indiquant “locature de Straize”. Ni moi ni Jean Michel ne connaissait ce mot alors nous nous sommes arrêtés pour visiter. Cette fermette solognote du 16ème siècle était louée à un ouvrier agricole appelé “bricolin”. C’était une visite très intéressante mais j’ai totalement oublié de prendre des photos de l’intérieur. Heureusement il y a un site web où vous pouvez le voir en cliquant ici.

Renovating a Windmill – Renovation d'un moulin à vent

Albert Thouvin is reconstructing this old windmill outside Souvigny-en-Soulogne entirely at his own expense, following its destruction in 1930, doing a lot of the work himself and raising money by holding jazz concerts. What a pity we missed the one on 24th June!
Albert Thouvin rénove à ses propres frais ce vieux moulin à Souvigny-en-Soulogne, détruit en 1930, en faisant beaucoup du travail lui-même et en collectant des fonds, par exemple, avec des concerts de jazz. Quel dommage que nous ayons manqué celui du 24 juin ! Pour plus d’informations cliquez ici.

Souvigny en Sologne

211_souvigny_churchToday while cycling in Sologne, we came across the delightful little village of Souvigny with its 12th century church (Saint Martin’s) and beautifully restored houses (see below). It is located about 70 km from Blois.
Aujourd’hui en faisant du vélo en Sologne, nous sommes tombés sur le joli petit village de Souvigny avec son église du 12e siècle (Saint Martin) et ses belles maisons restaurées (voir ci-dessous). Le village se trouve à environ 70 km de Blois.

I found this clock in the most unexpected place – a secondhand shop in a little village in Sologne. How it got there I don’t know!
J’ai trouvé cette horloge dans un lieu très inattendu : dans une brocante dans un village en Sologne. Mais je ne sais pas comment elle a atterri là !
