We went to Tours today to see the ophthalmologist. It’s a big city with a population of 136 000 while Blois, where we live, only had 50 000. This is a typical pedestrian street.

Covid Deconfinement Stage 1#10 – Roses in Chédigny
We love roses and make sure we visit the delightful village of Chédigny, whose streets are literally lined with roses, at least once a year. We drove to Chenonceau and cycled from there to Chédigny, 20 km away. We were not disappointed. Here are my two favourites for this year. No new deaths in our …

The Little Cul-de-Sac – La petite impasse
I love the mixture of architecture in this little cul-de-sac whic is called an “impasse” in French although it is still possible to say “cul-de-sac” which literally means the bottom of the bag.
Because Blois is built on a hill, it has lots of steps called degrés (degrees) connecting up the different levels. This is the last staircase to have been created in 1863, between Rue Sainte-Catherine and Rue du Grain d’Or. The council bought the land at the bottom of the street in 1854 and the locals …
Threatening Sky – Ciel menaçant
Fortunately I got back in time from my posting my letter because I didn’t have any protection from the rain! This is the corner of the old school in our street in Les Grouets. …
Power & Utility Lines – Réseaux aériens
There we were, walking along a country road (well not quite) and all we could see were telephone and power lines!
Lovely view of Blois cathedral from the top of the Saint Louis Steps Belle vue de la cathédrale de Blois depuis la partie haute des Grands Degrés Saint Louis.
The Free Hugger – L'homme à calins gratuits
Yesterday, I published the first of the four photos above for the CDP theme day with the question “Who am I”? After seeing the collage published by Lynette on Portland Daily Photo, I thought I would give the answer in a similar way. I can only assumed he’s a free hugger! Below are the four …

Rue Denis Papin
A monumental staircase built in 1865 by Jules de la Morandière forms the upper part of Rue Denis Papin, which is directly in line with Gabriel Bridge.
Long and Narrow – Longue et étroite
There are still several streets like this in Blois. I’d love to know what’s behind the red curtains. If you enjoyed reading this, don’t forget to subscribe to new posts – that way you’ll …
