Unfortunately we didn’t find any horn of plenty mushrooms in the forest today, but it was lovely with the sun filtering through.
Malheureusement nous n’avons pas trouvé de trompettes de la mort dans la forêt cet après-midi mais c’était très plaisant avec le soleil qui filtrait à travers les arbres.
Leccinum aurantiacum has a large, characteristically red-capped body. In North America, it is sometimes referred to by the common name red-capped scaber stalk. This edible mushroom mainly growns in aspen woods.
Leccinum aurantiacum, en français le bolet orangé ou bolet roux, est reconnaissable à son chapeau orange. Ce champignon comestible pousse principalement dans les bois de trembles.
The owl is saying “For a clean forest take your waste with you” which is the best solution in my opinion. This is the Bois de Boulogne near Mont Près Chambord.
Je trouve que le fait d’emporter ses déchets est la meilleure façon d’obtenir une forêt propre comme le bois de Boulogne à côte de Mont Près Chambord.

Tinder Fungus – Amadouvier
We didn’t pick this mushroom but we were sorry we couldn’t. Called Fomes fomentarius (commonly known as the tinder fungus, false tinder fungus, hoof fungus, tinder conk, tinder polypore or ice man fungus) it grows on the side of various species of tree, which it infects through broken bark, causing rot. The species typically continues to live on trees long after they have died.
Though inedible, F. fomentarius has traditionally seen use as the main ingredient of amadous, a material used primarily as tinder.
Nous n’avons pas ramassé ce champignon mais il nous a beaucoup plu …Appelé l’Amadouvier (Fomes fomentarius), son nom renvoie à l’amadou, mot d’origine provençale qui signifie « amoureux », en allusion à sa capacité à prendre feu. Le taxon scientifique se traduit, lui, littéralement par « combustible à pansements ».
These six edible mushrooms, collected in a forest about 1/2 hour from Blois, near Lancôme, are, from left to right in a spiral, Bordeaux cep, leccinum griseum, boletus (perhaps another leccinum griseum in a more advanced state), beefsteak fungus (also known as beefsteak polypore or ox tongue) and sweet tooth mushrooms (also known as wood hedgehog or hedgehog mushroom). Our total harvest was 2.2 kilos.
Nous avons ramassé ces six sortes de champignons comestibles dans une forêt à une demi-heure de Blois, près de Lancôme. De gauche à droite en spirale, un cèpe de Bordeaux, un bolet des charmes, un autre bolet (peut-être également un bolet des charmes plus avancé), une langue de boeuf et des pieds de mouton. En tout, 2,2 kilos.
This photo was taken in a forest next to the little village of Lancôme in Sologne. I don’t know if there is any connection with the famous perfume.

Skidding – Débardage
Skidding is the operation in which logs are transported from the cutting site to a temporary site where they are loaded onto trucks and sent to the mill. We saw this skidder in the wood where we go mushroom picking.
Le débardage est la première opération après la coupe forestière; Elle consiste à transporter des arbres abattus vers le lieu de dépôt ou de décharge provisoire, connu sous le nom technique de “chargeoir”, près d’une route ou d’une voie adaptée au transport ultérieur lointain. Nous avons vu ce tracteur forestier dans le bois où nous cherchons des champignons.
