I have been promising myself a visit of the rooftops of Chambord on a sunny day for some time. The problem is that in summer, there are too many visitors to take good photos and in the winter, thre isn’t enough sun! The beautiful autumn days we have been experiencing lately turned out to be the perfect choice. Here is my favourite.
Depuis longtemps je veux visiter les toits de Chambord un jour de soleil. Le problème est que pendant l’été, il y a trop de visiteurs pour prendre de belles photos et pendant l’hiver il n’y pas assez de soleil ! Les beaux jours d’automne que nous connaissons cette année se sont avérés parfaits. Voici ma photo préférée.
The Watchful Dog – Le chien de garde
I don’t know if there is a story to this dog standing watch over a little pavillion at Château de Villandry …
Je ne sais pas s’il y a une histoire derrière ce chien qui monte la garde sur un petit pavillon au château de Villandry …
Orange Bolete – Bolet orangé
This lovely specimen of the orange bolete (Leccinum aurantiacum) is perfectly edible. The typical tubes of boletes under the cap (as opposed to the gills of field mushrooms) can be clearly seen. These mushrooms can be found right through to December.
Ce beau spécimen de bolet orangé (Leccinum aurantiacum) est parfaitement comestible. Les tubes typiques des bolets sous le chapeau (par opposition aux lames des champignons de Paris) sont bien en évidence. On trouve ces champignons jusqu’en décembre.

This canola field on the other side of the Cisse is in Onzain, the little town opposite château de Chaumont.
Ce champ de colza se trouve de l’autre côté de la Cisse à Onzain, la petite ville en face du château de Chaumont.

This beautiful Saharan rose is still blooming at the beginning of November . Fortunately it’s too high for someone to cut it!
Cette belle rose Saharan est encore en fleur au début de novembre ! Heureusement elle est trop haute pour qu’on puisse nous la dérober !
The Lone Swan – Cygne seul
Yesterday we cycled from Tours to Château de Villandry in beautiful sunny autumn weather. There were many rewards! Villandry is famous for its gardens.
Hier nous avons fait du vélo entre Tours et Château de Villandry sous un soleil d’automne parfait. Nous étions bien récompensés ! Villandry est célèbre pour ses jardins.

Claudette, a Citroën Traction Avant, only slightly younger than me, is being driven by her owner, Simon, who runs Loire Valley Time Travel. Along with her older sister, Celestine (closer to my vintage), she takes lucky visitors to see the châteaux of the Loire and taste local food and wine with the help of her second owner, Susan, a very talented guide.
Claudette, une Traction avant Citroën, à peine ma cadette, avec au volant son chauffeur Simon, qui opère Loire Valley Time Travel. Avec sa grande soeur Célestine, (plus près de mon âge), elles font le bonheur des visiteurs des châteaux de la Loire en compagnie de Susan, leur guide de qualité qui leur propose également la dégustation de spécialités locales.
