Up until 1992, the Poulain chocolate factory, built at the end of the 19th century by Auguste Poulain, was firmly established in the heart of Blois. Bought by Cadbury in 1991, the factory moved to the north of Blois, next to the A10 motorway. Today, it is owned by Kraft Foods.
The remains of the Villette chocolate factory and Auguste Poulain’s home known as Château Poulain, overlooking the Loire, and the façades and roofs of the factory, which date from 1864 to 1867, remain a symbol of the town. Jusqu’en 1992 la chocolaterie Poulain, construite à la fin du XIXème sièce par Auguste Poulain, trônait au coeur de la ville de Blois. Achetée d’abord par Cadbury, l’usine a quitté la ville pour s’installer, en 1991, au nord de Blois, en bordure de l’autoroute A10. La marque est aujourd’hui propriété de l’Américain Kraft Foods.
Malgré tout, à Blois, les vestiges de la chocolaterie, l’usine dite de la Villette, le logement patronal , dit château Poulain, qui surplombe la Loire, ainsi que les façades et toitures des ateliers de fabrication datant de 1864 à 1867, restent un symbole de la ville.
