We finally went cycling again today from Rochecorbon to Château de Villandry. We had never approached Tours by bike from this side of the Loire. The building on the left is Saint Gratien’s Cathedral and the one on the right is the town library.

Fontaine Saint Hilaire
Here we have a wash-house, a humpback bridge and a pilgrim’s fountain all in the one spot. But nary a picnic table in sight. Saint Hilaire cured the blind and looked after eye problems in general.
The Boat’s Back – La gabarre est de retour
The weather was stunning today – an unbelievable 25 degrees (that’s 77 in Fahrenheit) so we cycled along the Loire to Cour-sur-Loire. On the way we saw our favourite flat-bottomed boat, Le Kairos, that takes us across the river in summer.

We are lucky enough to be close to four rivers – the Loire, the Loir, the Cher and the Indre and you can cycle along most parts of them. The Cher is the river spanned by Chateau de Chenonceau and we discovered today that the cycle paths between Chissay and Azay-sur-Cher have been immensely improved. …

Poplars – Peupliers
We were having a break on the cycle path between Château de Chaumont and Candé sur Beuvron today, admiring the poplars when this cyclist rode past.
The Roman Bridge – Le pont romain
Despite its name this is not a Roman bridge but a mediaeval bridge built in the 13th to 15th century in Chambourg-sur-Indre on the site of a Roman Ford. We took a detour from our cycling route from Loches de Chedigny.
Afternoon Tea Break – Quatre heures
We often have afternoon tea in this little wash house outside the village of Chambon about a half an hour by bike from our house. Last time it was taken, to our immense surprise but today we could watch the bright blue dragonflies flitting about while we drank our thermos of tea. Ah, the little …
Pop-Up
We came across the little pop-up booth offering refreshments on the bike path between Muides and Saint-Dyé, not unusual in Germany but unheard-of here.
The Stone Bridge – Le pont en pierre
After spending most of the weekend gardening we had a pleasant ride on our bikes starting at Cheverny and having a tea break at Cellettes.
The View before the Fall – La vue avant la chute
There we were happily cycling along when I looked to the right and saw this château on the right we’d never seen before. To take the photo we had to go down a gravel road marked Private. We took it anyway but in my haste I skidded on the gravel as I stopped but didn’t …
