Mimetic Mosaic – Mosaïque mimétique

Château de Chaumont Garden Festival

I really like this garden at the Château de Chaumont Garden Festival but I find the explanation somewhat pretentious. “This garden celebrates the extraordinary artistic perfection of plant fractals.” For those who are not familiar with the term fractal, it means any of various extremely irregular curves or shapes for which any suitably chosen part is similar in shape to a given larger or smaller part when magnified or reduced to the same size (Merriam Webster) or a complicated pattern in mathematics built from simple repeated shapes that are reduced in size every time they are repeated. (Cambridge). No doubt this has some relevance.

J’aime bien ce jardin au Festival des jardins de Château de Chaumont mais je trouve son descriptif un peu prétentieux « ce jardin célèbre l’extraordinaire perfection artistique des fractales végétales ». Pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas le terme fractal il s’agit d’une forme géométrique qui se répète à l’identique quand on change d’échelle. Il y a sans doute un rapport.
