Bread baking wasn’t the only attraction last Sunday at Les Grouets. We could also try our hand at a lathe. I got in early before the kids and their dads arrived – after that, you couldn’t even get close up!
Le four à pain n’était pas la seule attraction à la Fête du pain dimanche dernier aux Grouëts. Nous pouvions également nous initier au tournage du bois.Heureusement que j’ai pu essayer avant l’arrivée des enfants et leurs pères : après on ne pouvait plus s’y approcher !

For the 9th consecutive year, our neighbourhood, Les Grouets, held a bread-baking day at part of the French national fête du pain celebrations. Norbert, the owner of the century-old wood-fired oven, starts heating it four days beforehand. Local children bring along their brioches on Friday but the main celebration is on Sunday. I took along two loaves to bake at 10 am.. Here, Norbert is testing to see if they are cooked. And in the video below, you can see the pizzas being put in the oven.
Pour la neuvième année de suite, notre quartier des Grouets a participé à la fête du pain. Norbert, le propriétaire d’un four à pain plus que centenaire, commencer à le chauffer quatre jours avant. Les enfants du quartier amènent leur brioches le vendredi mais la vraie fête a lieu le dimanche. J’ai amené deux pains à faire cuire vers 10 heures du matin. Dans la photo, on voit Norbert en train d’en vérifier la cuisson. Et dans la vidéo ci-dessous vous pouvez le voir en train d’enfourner les pizzas qui sont vendus au public par la suite..
The fête du pain or bread festival takes places in France every year on the feast of Saint Honoré, patron saint of bakers. Norbert Gourget, who has his own bread oven in our neighbourhood, Les Grouets, turns into a baker once a year for the local association Les Amis des Grouets to bake bread, brioche and pizzas.
La fête du pain a lieu une fois par an en France le jour de la saint Honoré, saint patron des boulangers. Norbert Gourget, qui a son propre four à pain dans notre quartier, Les Grouets, devient boulanger une fois par an pour l’association du quartier, les Amis des Grouets, pour cuire du pain, de la brioche et des pizzas.
