It was minus 4 degrees when I took this photo at 10 am this morning. That’s Joan of Arc you can see in the distance is by the American sculptress Anna Hyatt Huntington. The Salon de Paris exhibition in 1910 refused to award first prize for one of her monumental statues when they learnt who she was, on the pretext that “It’s far too big and beautiful for a woman to have made it!”

En 1910 le Salon de Paris a refusé de lui donner le premier prix pour l’une de ses statuts monumentales lorsqu’ils ont appris son identité sous prétexte que « C’est trop beau et grand pour que ce soit l’œuvre d’une femme ».
